About PO

I'm on an Android mobile device. How do I play this game?

How do I load a team onto my Android mobile device?

First, create your team on the PC with the Team Builder. Save it, and enter a server. In the server, look for the Plugin menu. Choose Plugin Manager and install the Export Team to QR Code. After you've done that, return to the Plugin menu, and choose the new Export Team to QR Code function. A code will appear on the computer for you to scan. On your Android, choose to import a team with QR scanner. You will be prompted to install the Bar Code Scanner App if you haven't already. Once you've done this, line up the QR code in the phone's scanner, and the team will import into your Android.

The server says that my team is invalid. Why?

This message indicates that you do not currently have any team loaded or created. If you have created a team, be sure that you have assigned moves to your Pokemon. A Pokemon with no moves does not count as a Pokemon, so by forgetting to assign moves, the server will read that you have no Pokemon, and therefore an invalid team.

What is Challenge Cup?

Challenge Cup is a unique style of play in which both competitors are automatically assigned random teams. By "random," it is meant that everything from the Pokemon and its moves to its held items and abilities are randomly chosen. Pokemon are balanced by level, however, meaning weaker Pokemon, such as Caterpie or Sunkern will most often be generated at a higher level than stronger Pokemon such as Legendaries or their evolved counter-parts.

What are tiers?

What are the different tiers?

Why can't I log on to _____ server?

If you receive a connection issue before being asked for a password or connected to the server, your IP may be banned, or the server may be experiencing some technical issues. If neither of these are the case, and/or you are using a name that might be pretty common, it's possible somebody else has signed onto that server with your name, or has password protected it. In these cases, it is best to change to a more unique name, and try again. If you make it to the password input screen with your own registered name, but are still denied connection, try a different name and ask an owner to clear the password on your own name.

I think my opponent is hacking the program and/or cheating. What should I do?

About the Reborn Server

What is chatspeak?

Chatspeak is the shortening or abbreviation of words into text. For instance, writing "you" as "u", "like" as "lyk", or "this" as "dis". On the Reborn server, these things are prohibited to maintain a clean, intellectual environment. Not included in this rule are things such as "lol" or "btw". The general rule is if it's a single word, type it out, but if it's more than one word, it's okay to shorten.

How do I use bold/italic/strike out/etc text?

This is done by using markdown in your messages on the server. Markdown is the use of special symbols to apply HTML effects to your messages. Type "/help markdown" into the server for a list of markdown controls. Some common ones are reproduced for your convenience here:
**Bold**
_Italics_
--Strikethrough--

[Link Title](Hyperlink)

How do I start a tournament?

Tournaments can only be started by the server auth, however we will almost always start them on request if there is not already a tournament or other event taking place. Our tournaments are in OverUsed by default, however we're more than happy to run other kinds, particularly Challenge Cup, provided there are a number of willing participants.

Can I be a mod?

As a policy, we do not grant auth powers to those who ask for them. Perhaps unlike some other servers, Reborn is very particular with whom is granted responsibility and power. In order to become a mod, one must be an active, respected, long-standing, mature member of the community. On meeting these requirements, the staff may consider them for mod candidacy if we come to a place where we need some additional help. The candidates will then be reviewed, and one or two will be chosen. In other words, it's a long, fickle process, and one probably ought not hold their breath to be selected.

Can I have megauser status?

Currently, Reborn does not have a Megauser status, and there are no present plans for this to change. However, if in the future we do decide to create this functionality, the status will most likely be reserved for server-active Ace Members.

Why are Reborn's tiers different?

Our tiers represent the way that we have agreed to and learned to play and the way that we enjoy playing- NOT what another server has decided for us. In most cases, this means that compared to other servers, we have very few Pokemon banned to Ubers, and thereby have a very different meta-game. People are encouraged to think for themselves which Pokemon are best to use or might be "overpowered" rather than allowing any server, including Reborn, to think for them. The fact that Reborn uses a custom tiering system is simply the manifestation of our own independent thought.

What are the Lines on the server, such as "Ruby Line," "Emerald Line," etc?

These are queues for challengers awaiting their gym battles in the Reborn League. Each Line is simply a different list of people being processed simultaneously for that night. If you are not interested in challenging the Reborn League, you can safely disregard them entirely. If, on the other hand, you are challenging, look at the Line topics to figure out how many people are left before your turn. We typically list people and the leaders they're facing with only the first few letters of their names, so keep a sharp eye.

About the Reborn Website

Who does the sprites for the Gym League?

All gym sprites are frankensteined, edited or custom-created by Amethyst.

Can Amethyst make a custom sprite for me?

Amethyst is currently not accepting requests, given the masses of people that would like a custom sprite. However, it is for this reason that the Reborn Sprite Shop was created. There, you can use on-site points ($R) to buy new accessories and clothes for your custom sprite character, and build it yourself!

How do I customise my sprite? I don't want to be naked!

Click the "Customize your Sprite" or "Sprite Shop" links from the menu on the left. You'll be taken through an initial creation process, in which you choose your gender, race, and a few starting items so you don't have to go naked. You'll also be given a small amount of $R to start out with, so you can buy yourself some nice things right off the bat~ After going through this process once, you'll be taken to the store, where you can search through or sort items by gender, category, color and more. Just click an item to see its details or alternate colors, and choose the Cart icon to add it to cart. When you're done, Checkout, and then head to your Equip Page to throw it all together. Remember, items you choose last will go on top, so the best way to have control of your appearance is to mind the order you choose them in.

What is $R and how do I earn it?

$R is an on-site currency, known as Reborn Rupees that's used in the Sprite and Site Shops. It can be used to buy upgrades to your custom sprite, trainer card, profile/account, or even to mess with other people! $R is earned primarily by posting around the forum like normal- you get a little bit per post. Where you post makes a difference too. If you help out with RMTs or the StrategyDex a lot, you can accumulate $R very quickly. Other ways to earn it include doing quests in the Quest Center, winning Contests/Themed Tournaments, or by donating to the site.

Can I use my own sprite on my card?

Unfortunately, we do no currently have a function for this to work, and there are no plans to instate it in the immediate future. You can download, modify and upload your site-generated card, however it will not be functional for purposes such as league. Still, feel free to play around with the Sprite Shop as much as you like.

What is Ace Member status and how do I get it?

Ace Members are the elite among the Reborn user-base. They have generally extended privileges, greater customization options, and access to their own private forum. Ace Member status is automatically awarded to Reborn League Champions, former Reborn Staff, and Donating Members, however the average user can purchase Ace Status with $R in the Site Shop.

I just updated my trainer card, but it isn't changing. Why?

Nine times out of ten when this happens, the card HAS been properly updated, but your computer has loaded the old image of the card and doesn't know that it needs to be updated. Your computer will notice the change and reload the image in time, however if you're using Firefox or Chrome, you can force this change immediately. Right click the card, and look for an option that says "View Image" or "Open Image in New Tab." Once on this page, hit the refresh button, and your card should load as updated.

Why don't Rotom's forms appear on the card?

Currently, we cannot display alternate formes on cards, however we hope to fix this in the near future. For the purposes of the Reborn League, we know that you are using an alternate form by the presence of its signature moves.

About the Reborn League

Who are the gym leaders?

Is there an Elite 4/Champion?

Because we have all 17 types covered in Gyms, we do not have a proper Elite 4 or Champion, however the final, 17th leader is very often regarded and referred to as the Champion. Similarly, the final 4 leaders before the champion (ranks 13-16) are called the 'Elite Block' and substitute for the Elite 4.

You say there are 17 leaders, but on the website, only x are shown. Are you missing some?

Because we've recently started a new season of the league, not all leaders were released at once. A new leader debuts every 2 weeks, and so their profile won't be placed on the website until their debut.

Can I be a leader?

All of our positions are currently filled, and in the unlikely event of a sudden absence on the part of the Line Hosts, we will almost certainly draw from the current staff. In other words, it's highly unlikely.

How do I challenge the league?

First, Create an Account on Reborn. Secondly, create a Trainer Card with your Reborn League team. Make sure that you do not use legends or repeat species, and that you specify which Hidden Power types you use. After you've done that, during League Hours (8-12 PM EST Monday-Friday) sign on to the Reborn Server and PM Eternal Edge (or whomever the topic states) telling him which Leader you'd like to challenge that night. He'll take it from there- then just be patient as you wait for your turn with the leader~

So which leaders can I challenge?

To start, new challengers may challenge any of the first 4 leaders (the 'Entry Block,' or 'Entry Leaders), provided they are scheduled for the day that you are challenging on. As a general rule, challengers are elligible to face any leader within four places of their lowest missing badge. For example, suppose you have the first and third badges. The second badge is your lowest missing badge, so four places up (2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th) means that you can fight up to the 5th leader. Once you get this second badge, your lowest missing badge will be the fourth badge, meaning you could then fight four places up (4th, 5th, 6th, 7th) to the seventh leader.

I requested a leader but they aren't on yet! Or, they're on but taking forever! What should I do?

Be patient. We do everything we can to make sure everyone gets their battles, but there are a lot of challengers, and a lot of leaders to manage. Just connecting through each others computers to make sure that everything stays under wraps takes a few minutes, and from there, there may be breaks in between battles. We do try to hurry though, so just hang tight. If your name is listed on a Line topic, you will get your battle. If it isn't, check in with Eternal Edge (or, again, whomever the topic states), or the Line Hosts you would be placed under.

What do the different lines mean?

Why can we only fight one leader per night?

In the past, we have offered challengers the ability to fight as many as three matches per night, but this quickly results in very, very long lines, a lot of chaos, and some very tired leaders. Please understand that we have a lot of challengers, and leaders need their breaks too!

Why doesn't league use clauses?

The Reborn League seeks to emulate the experience of fighting Gym Leaders in-game, but with the difficulty of facing a real, human opponent. Being that the game does not use clauses, the Reborn League opts not to, as well.

Why do I have to keep the same team the whole time?

Unfortunately, there are some people who, if they could, would just go in against (for example) the Fire Leader with a bunch of Water Pokemon or Pokemon with Ground/Rock moves, etc. In order to keep everything fair and balanced, we make you fight all 17 types with the same team. This is a relatively simple way to keep battles fair, compared to some other leagues where they place very explicit limits on what kind of team you can have in the first place, often flat out forcing you to change every battle. This also encourages you to think in unique ways of how to use your team and the Pokemon in your team, and over all cna make you a better trainer in general.

Do I have to include Hidden Power type on my Trainer Card?

Yes, and similarly, it cannot be changed in the course of your League Challenge (without changing your team as normally, at least). If we permitted Hidden Power to be changed, it would give users of that move an unfair advantage compared to other challengers.

Can I change EVs/Items/Abilities, etc?

Absolutely. You are afforded this liberty in order to help compensate for the dramatic shift of battles, for instace, in doubles or triples, or to beat a certain type giving you trouble. Get creative!

Why aren't any Legends allowed?

Although there are certainly some Legendary Pokemon that aren't strong enough to warrant a ban, the Reborn League enforces a blanket ban on Legends- firstly, to create a different sort of meta-game in the league, forcing trainers to adapt their strategies in new ways, or find more common Pokemon to suit their purposes. The second reason is to add an element of humbleness to the challenges. Battles are a lot less exciting in-game when you go in with an over-powered legend backing you. Banning all legends creates a very modest impression for both the challengers and leaders.

I beat x, how/when do I get my badge?

For the most part, the badge process is automated on your part. It does require that a League Host add the badge to your card themselves, but we try our best to make sure we keep up with everything. Unfortunately, because of the high volume of challengers, we are not always perfect on this (a new system is currently under construction to alleviate this delay) and if it's been a few days since your win, and you still have no badge, feel free to give Ikaru a nudge about it.

When will battle logs/highlights be updated?

Due to the high volume of challengers, we are currently backlogged as to the log entry system, however everything is still being saved. We are currently working on a new system to automate the log entry process, so just be patient until that system is functional.

I live in a timezone in europe/asia/wherever and can't make it to league hours! What can I do?

Unfortunately, at the present time we cannot reliably schedule leaders for battles outside of league hours. However, be patient, and after a few new technical systems are instated to ease the weight of running league, we will probably begin offering league battles by appointment.
